David McCullough- Great American Historian

David McCullough passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 88. He authored 12 books over 54 years with Simon and Shuster.

I have read 7 of his 12 books- Johnstown Flood, 1968, Path between the Seas,1977, John Adams, 2001, 1776,2005,The American Spirit, 2013, Wright Brothers, 2015 and Pioneers, 2019. They were all very good with John Adams being my favorite followed by 1776. I listened to 2 of his audiobooks that he narrated, Johnstown Flood and the Path between the Seas. He was a great narrator of his excellent books. He also narrated the movie Seabiscuit and Ken Burns ” Civil War”.

Mc Cullough was born and raised in Pittsburgh and in 2013 he had the 16th St bridge over the Allegheny River named in his honor. Tom Hanks directed the Mini series of John Adams on HBO.

McCullough’s style of writing made reading history enjoyable to millions. He believed in this country and the values that it stands for. This was expressed in the book the American Spirit. It was inspiring! We need more authors of McCullough’s caliber to preserve our historical traditions,to educate our citizens and inspire them!
