Gordon, Jack and Doug (kneeling)

This picture was taken in August of 1971. The Waite boys pictured were members of our Bethany Lutheran Church softball team. Gordon was 19, I was 20 and Doug was 12. Our brother Jeff is missing from picture, he was 15 and probably still playing baseball on a team with our neighbors the Krivonacs. He later joined the team, and played the longest.

Gordon was one of the best players on the team, he played third base, could hit and was fast on the base paths. His nickname was Brooks after Brooks Robinson on the Orioles. Doug played the outfield and was one of the youngest players. I was a utility infielder, played wherever I was needed.

We had a lot of fun playing. Check out the Time Out for Sports page for more stories!
