The book by Mike Pence released in July of 2022 was a good read. It told the Pence side of the Donald Trump presidency. I have read two of Bob Woodward’s books on Trump and Bill Barr’s book so I was familiar with a lot of the details.

But this book is different. Pence tells of growing up in Indiana, a grandson of Irish immigrants. He grew up in a patriotic family, with great work ethics. He was raised a Catholic, became a born again Christian which gave him strength to persevere. He came to not taking himself too seriously, not putting himself above others.

As a high school student he studied the Constitution and participated in numerous public speaking programs on that topic. In college he continued his studies in history. He went to law school, worked for a political think tank, and worked in radio as a political talk show host. He ran twice unsuccessfully for Congress from his home District and 10 years later was successful. He served in the House of Representatives for 12 years, Governor of Indiana for four years before being elected Vice President.

The book highlights the career of what I consider a true servant leader, the real posture our politicians should take in our service. He served Trump faithfully but in the final days of their Administration, and especially on January 6th, stood his ground and documented his position that was in direct conflict with his president. But not in conflict with the Constitutional law he was well versed in.

Pence is a true gentleman with Christian values that he practices, a family first man that has withstood criticism of those traits from the left leaning media. He was loyal to his President but still loyal to his principles.

I enjoyed the book, learning about the man and maybe a future candidate that will be worth supporting! I rate this book a B+. Read this book to learn about the man.
