Old Man Jack’s Reading Journal for February

Wow for a short month I read 13 books in 28 days, with books from 2 new authors to me and 1 free book from Freebooksey.

Fredrik Backman

My first book in February was The Winners by Fredrik Backman, the third book in the Beartown series. It continues the story of two towns in the forest of Sweden and the lives of the people centered on a rivalry of their hockey teams. It is a great book as it deals with all the personalities and their interelations and even the politics of these two towns and how one person’s positive actions can change the whole situation! This is an A rated book that you have to read.

Backman is the author of the book A man called Ove, which was a movie in Sweden that has been made into the movie A Man called Otto starring Tom Hanks. The movie is getting good reviews. I read the book and it was fantastic.

In addition I read books such as :

Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allen Poe

Rage by Bob Woodward

The Colorado Kid by Stephen King

Killing Kennedy by Bill O’Reilly

Which were all A rated books worth reading.

I read two new histories, The Revolutionary by Stacy Shiff on Samuel Adams. And There was Light by Jon Meacham on Abraham Lincoln.

The Revolutionary was a fantastic book on Sam Adams. He is little written about because he hid most of his writings and wrote under pen names but he was the driving force of the Revolution but taking a back seat to Jefferson, Washington and his cousin John Adams. He was the ultimate organizer and got things done using others. An A plus read.

Meacham’s book was a look at Slavery and what Lincoln did or didn’t do , and what he could have done better. I do not agree with looking back and criticizing someone who was ahead of his times but not good enough for us now! That’s like pulling down statues!Meacham is a left leaning historian playing to the Woke crowd!

The final book I’d like to review is Run Rose Run by Dolly Parton and James Patterson. It is a great story of earning trust and clawing your way to the top. Dolly wrote 12 songs featured in the book! You get the knowledge of the music business that only Dolly has with the story telling of James Patterson! A great story! Another A plus!

Wait till you here about March’s reads!
