Book Review – Battle for the American Mind

This book by Pete Hegseth was very good. It covered the subject of American education, taking on a topic that recently has been a hot button item when parents saw first hand what their children were really learning!

But Hegseth writes that it is not just a new phenomenon but over a hundred years in the making.

Our Western civilization which got its roots in Greek, Roman and Hebrew cultures brought together by the Christian faith and the Bible is responsible for so much of mankind’s progress in the last 2500 years.

He discussed the topic of paidea, which is the basis of our culture, based on our Western Christian beliefs formulated by our education and experience over nearly 2500 years

Our country’s founders were educated in a Classical Christian education based on the Western Christian paidea that led them to create this Republic that has changed the world.

But as Hegseth laments a series of actions by progressives over a hundred years that has gradually or not so gradually happened to make our current government schools no longer resemble that classic Christian education. The biggest culprits are government control, Supreme Court rulings and public employee unions.

Hegseth outlines a plan to get our education back under control but it will take almost the same amount of time to get it back…. a 100 years!

I highly recommend you read this book if you are concerned about our children and grandchildren’s education and the future of this great republic. I really learned a lot and you will too! Even if you think our Education and Country is on the right track you need to read this book!

I rate it an A +. As always please let me know what you think!
