Old Man Jack’s Reading Journal

Just spending the rainy day caused by Ida to update you on my reading Journal. I read 10 books in August with three being from new authors to me. I am at 84 books read thru August.

A new book I got from the library as an ebook is Serpentine by Jonathan Kellerman. It was a great read as all the Alex Delaware series books are. Delaware is a psychologist who works with the LAPD. He and his partner,Lt Milo Sturgis are put on a cold case from nearly 30 years ago doing a favor for a political ally of the department. The daughter of the deceased mother is trying to find out what happened and demands results! The only item she has from her mother is a Serpentine necklace and their only clue.

The investigation takes a lot of time and follow up and twists and turns. You won’t believe where the story takes you and the ending.

I just started reading Kellerman and I really enjoy his writing. I rate this book an A rating. I recommend you read this book!

I found this book, Paradise Valley at the McKenna Senior Center. It’s part of C.J. Box ‘s HIghway series. The series is the basis of the series on ABC “Big Sky”. Cassie Dewell has been tracking the Lizard King for 3 years and now sets the perfect trap to get him. Nothing could go wrong…. At the same time a young friend of her son disappears after telling all that he is going on a long planned adventure. Could the Lizard King have him? Read this great tale.

If you are watching Big Sky you will appreciate this novel. The series doesn’t follow the books completely and the characters are changed for TV but it follows the haunting spirit Box’s novels. Read the Book rated an A++. Then watch the TV series.

I read a second CJ Box book in August, his third book he ever wrote, Three Weeks to Goodbye. It’s a novel about a couple who after adopting has the birth father challenging them and gives them 3 weeks to give their daughter up. The birth father is a sinister Senior in high school who will do anything! You got read this one that takes place in Denver and Montana. Another A+++ book!

CJ BOX is my new favorite author. He has written 29 books and I have read 20 of them. I’m always looking for his books, the ones I haven’t read are mostly from his start. I highly recommend CJ Box. His style of story telling holds your attention, you don’t want to.put the book down.
